Artificial intelligence is the ability of a digital computer or machines to perform tasks commonly associated with normal human behavior, such as learning, reasoning, perception, problem-solving, and language understanding.

According to PwC, the vast applications of these intelligent machines are projected to contribute $15.7 trillion to the global economy by 2030.

Whether you’re already utilizing AI or you’re still looking to discover what it means for your brand, one thing is sure: AI is here to stay.

AI Writers: Where AI Meets Content Marketing

In content marketing or content creation, brands use relevant digital content such as blog posts, newsletters, podcasts, videos, and posters to attract and sustain a desired audience.

Their main objective is to attract new and returning customers (increased traffic) and drive profitable customer action.

An AI writer is a tool that employs artificial intelligence to create content for companies and brands.

Many brands see content creation as a very daunting task without AI help.

AI assistants come in handy in marketing by making it possible for marketers to handle and manipulate data, perform analysis, utilize automation, and generate content that meets the need of their audience — quickly and efficiently.

    AI Writers You Should Know

Contrary to what many people believe, in AI content writing, more than just AI writers are required.

Proofreading, fact-checking, and final editing are essential aspects that require human intervention.

Nevertheless, you can significantly increase your results and productivity with the right AI writer.

The following are AI tools you should explore:

    ChatGPT

    AI-Writer

AI-Writer bills itself as an all-in-one writing tool that can take a singular topic or idea and turn it into a fully fleshed-out article, ready to be published. What sets AI-Writer apart from other similar tools is that it cites its sources, is constantly updated, and writes articles based on current SEO practices.

That said, the content that AI-Writer generates isn’t very compelling or easy to read. Some of the sample articles are very repetitive (with the same keyword starting numerous paragraphs) and don’t go beyond surface-level information. So, while you may get a decent first draft, the content isn’t exactly “publish” worthy.

    Pros

    • Cites sources to verify information
    • Updates itself regularly with current events and topics
    • Formulated to match current SEO standards
    • The company guarantees that content is unique and original

    Cons

    • Doesn’t go beyond surface-level information

    Canva Magic Write

Canva Magic Write is an AI-powered tool to make it easier to generate social media posts, advertising blurbs, and copy for various graphics. Since Canva is already the go-to site for graphic design and editing, having an AI writer on hand can make it much easier to generate designs from scratch in a short period.

Best of all, it formats the content accordingly, so you can save even more time and energy. However, if you want it to write full content pieces, it’s not designed for that kind of thing.

    State of Marketing Report 2024

    Pros

    • Very intuitive controls
    • Works for all kinds of design projects
    • Formats the text with headers and bullet points automatically
    • Free to use with your Canva account

    Cons

    • Not meant for full-scale content pieces
    • Information is superficial
    • No real verification provided

How Your Brand Can Benefit From AI Writers

For several reasons, small- and medium-scale businesses, marketers, and even giant corporations invest in AI writing tools.

Some intend to gradually replace their human content authors and editors, while others simply seek to speed up content production.

Though there are conflicting opinions about AI-generated content, the truth remains that there are several benefits to gain.

    Create content more quickly

Since content marketing is a reliable way to generate traffic for your business, you need to produce a lot of high-value content quickly. AI writers can help you get first drafts and ideas for new content pieces much faster than you would be able to do on your own.

That said, most AI writing is not ready for publishing immediately. Human writers and editors are still needed to:

    • Double-check and verify the information
    • Search for grammatical errors (more on that in the next section)
    • Add personality and brand identity to the piece
    • Make it more engaging for the reader
    • Create a compelling and customized call to action

Even though humans are still needed to polish AI writing, the results are much faster and more efficient than generating everything from scratch.

    Produce grammatically correct sentences

There are two versions of “grammatically correct” to worry about when generating new content. First is spelling and punctuation, which AI is excellent at getting right. With AI-generated pieces, you shouldn’t have to verify periods, commas, and spelling.

The second type of “grammatically correct” writing to worry about is context. AI may use improper words that can make a piece sound too jumbled or full of jargon. As a rule, AI writes like a computer, meaning it doesn’t understand context and subtext while it writes. So, a person has to make sure that the piece reads well for humans, not machines.

Mimic the structure and data on top-performing sites

Before producing output, AI writing tools search through top-performing external sources.

They mimic the content and organization of high-ranking pages, giving your site a chance to rank highly in SERPs.

Suggests interesting content ideas for your target audience

AI writing tools can offer ideas for topics and questions your target audience would find intriguing.

They achieve this by creating content based on user preferences and interests.

    Contently

    Limitations of AI Writers

While AI-generated content can be useful for marketing purposes, it’s nowhere near perfect. Overall, AI programs are best utilized when assisted by human writers. Here are some substantial limitations to pay attention to when choosing an AI writing tool.

    Prevalence of misinformation

There are two reasons why humans need to fact-check the details provided by an AI-written piece. First, these programs get their information from the internet, and they may not use reputable sources.

Also, the phrasing of a question or prompt may trigger the AI to search for selective misinformation to appease the user, not to be factually accurate.

Over time, as more misinformed AI-generated pieces are published, the problem will only get worse as AI starts cannibalizing its own content. So, companies and brands must be diligent to prevent this kind of catastrophe.

The second problem is the prevalence of “hallucinations.” Sometimes, AI programs like ChatGPT will make up information, again, to appease the user.

If the user doesn’t verify or corroborate this information, they could unknowingly publish incorrect facts, leading to a poor reputation.

    Hard to verify what’s presented

Some AI writers will cite their sources when generating the content, meaning it’s easy to trace where the details originated and whether the source is credible or not.

Many of these tools, however, don’t cite specific sources, meaning it’s hard to know where the information came from on the internet.

Also, as we mentioned, some bots can “hallucinate” and make up facts on the spot, further blurring the line between what they discovered online and what they generated by themselves.

Deep dives and insights are rare

Most of the content you’ll find online is surface-level, meaning it rarely goes deeper than the basic elements of the topic at hand.

There are many reasons for this, but overall, because AI scrapes the internet for content to repurpose, most of what these tools will find is basic and rarely go too deep into a topic.

Additionally, it’s even harder for an AI writer to explain the “why” behind a topic. A program can tell you facts and figures, but it’s much harder to get to the root of what caused those facts and figures to occur.

So, if you want meaningful content, only a human can generate that for you.

Content can be repetitive and boring

If you read an AI-generated article and a human-written article side by side, it’s usually easy to tell which piece was created by a machine. AI bots aren’t trying to create engaging content that sparks the imagination or makes the reader feel something.

These programs are simply generating information in an easy-to-read style, with little thought to how well that information is conveyed. As a result, many AI pieces are boring, repetitive, and hard to read.

    Human Intelligence Is a Must

Overall, while AI writers are much more advanced than in years past (and will continue to advance in the coming years), they’re still not comparable to human writers.

As the saying goes, when it comes to generating content, you can choose two of three elements: good, fast, or cheap. AI writers are fast and cheap, but very few (if any) are excellent at writing.

So, instead of wondering whether AI will replace human writers, the better question is: How can AI help human writers deliver better content?

They do so by taking care of a lot of the detailed elements (i.e., proofreading and outlining). Humans can spend more time writing deeper, more engaging content that will convert leads and boost your brand’s appeal online.
