Social media marketing: Is your brand making this common mistake?

Social media marketing: Is your brand making this common mistake?

Social media marketing (SMM)  regularly takes on different forms, as brands figure out the best ways to communicate with customers. It can be a lot to keep up with and also comes with many learning opportunities.

That's why we reached out to Karen Spaeder, VP of Communications at Rallio, a software as a service (SaaS) platform combining cloud-based social media technology — to ask her if she could share her lessons learned as an expert of SMM. Spaeder talked to us about the top mistake she sees in SMM, the benefits of overcoming it and one major tip your brand should keep in mind.

A top mistake in social media marketing

Spaeder has seen countless mistakes throughout her career. The biggest? Creators who don’t see their campaigns all the way through.

“One of the biggest pitfalls that people fall victim to in social media marketing is giving up too soon. They may start posting content and get some initial traction, but when they don't get results immediately, they may think it's not working and stop. This is a mistake, because the problem is not that you're posting; it's that you aren't being consistent,” said Spaeder. “Social media requires you to be engaged with your followers every day, responding to their comments and questions, and also being willing to advertise your business through boosted ads or sponsored ads to increase your following, reach and engagement.”

The benefits of consistency

So what additional benefits come with staying consistent in your SMM outreach?

“People with no previous social media presence are able to slowly build a following and increase engagement just because they stay consistent with their goals. This is very often the case in the world of social media marketing. The average business owner might not become a viral sensation overnight, and they might not have the huge budgets of a household-name brand. But as long as they've identified KPIs and they're continually monitoring their efforts, tweaking things when needed, they are able to make progress," said Spaeder.

A tip to remember

As you do stay consistent, just remember that consistency is not the same as complacency.

“Don't get too comfortable, meaning you need to stay on top of the current trends. Social media platforms are always evolving, and with that comes increasing client demands. Keeping yourself up to date ensures you're always able to serve clients' needs,” said Spaeder.

Staying consistent and keeping an eye on current trends are just a few key ways your brand can maximize SMM efforts. Stay tuned to this blog for more.
