Trending Topics
Social Doesn’t Want You to Leave
A recent report by SparkToro shows that social is driving very little traffic to websites. The highest percentage from one social channel is only 3% of overall site traffic, with most channels closer to 1%. Which begs the question, should you share links in your social posts? Depends on the platform!
Political Ban on Meta
Due to recent scrutiny, Meta has now enabled a limited political content feature by default. You can manually remove this setting, but Meta has not alerted users directly of this change. Ignorance isn’t really bliss this year, Zuck.
Happy April Fools!
If you really want to fool people this April 1st, what makes a great campaign is believability, getting media coverage, involving leadership, and really knowing your audience. And, as always, leaning into the surprise factor, but not TOO much.
New + Noteworthy
1 Starbucks Please, Hold the CMO
Starbucks recently dropped their Global CMO role. Instead, the regional CEOs will take responsibility for the business in each market, working alongside regional marketers. This change stems from three-fourths of new store openings outside of the U.S this year. Talk about a lack of sweetener for the CMO role…does this mean it’s dead, or just transforming? We’ll have to wait and see!
Ad Of The Week
Andrex busts taboos on marketing about toilet paper in their new ad, “Get Comfortable.” The toilet paper industry isn’t always the most exciting account to work on, but this new ad shows that you can make it fun. 18 years in the making, this ad encourages people to let go of their embarrassment about using the restroom. It thinks outside of the bathroom, truly, in terms of how shots are captured, and really stretches the norm for the industry.
